I didn’t want to focus directly on the negative health side effects or on the actual disaster itself [Chernobyl] because so much of this has been covered in documentaries and photo essays over the past few years. It was about showing the humanity of the people and about capturing little moments in their lives in a composed and photographic way.

Nadelman uses a photo collage puppeted-animation technique that transforms ordinary antique engravings into a darkly macabre vision that fits the music perfectly.
The Known Universe takes viewers from the Himalayas through our atmosphere and the inky black of space to the afterglow of the Big Bang. Every star, planet, and quasar seen in the film is possible because of the world’s most complete four-dimensional map of the universe, the Digital Universe Atlas.
